FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many guests can fit on a Pinzgauer (Beer Tasting Safari Vehicle)?
Each Pinzgauer seats 12 guests. Two Pinzgauers typically run out of Downtown, while one Pinzgauer typically runs out of North County. If you'd like to keep the tour private then 12 seats must be paid for.
Can we drink beer in the Pinzgauer (Beer Safari Tour Vehicle)?
Yes! You are able to drink beer in the Pinzgauer en route to the breweries. We typically serve around 1-2 beers or more to drink on the road.
How many breweries do we visit?
We visit TWO breweries on the 3 hour tour, and THREE breweries on the 4 hour tour.
What's the difference between the 3hr & 4hr tours?
Besides the duration itself, the only difference between the two tours is the number of breweries visited. We visit two breweries on the 3 hour tour and three breweries on the 4.5 hour tour.
Which breweries do we go to?
During the booking process, you will be asked to suggest which breweries you would like to visit. A list of brewery options is located on our website, but if there is one you're looking to go to that you do not see on our list please let us know. We try our very best to visit the locations that are suggested, however, the final stops may vary due to operating hours, distance, group consensus, etc..
Can I schedule a tour that isn't listed on the website?
Yes! If you're interested in a specific date or time that isn't listed on our website please contact us and we'll do our best to schedule a custom tour.
Can I book a Private Tour?
All tours listed on our booking calendar are open to the public. If you'd prefer the vehicle to yourself then all 12 seats must be paid for.
What if I have more than 12 guests?
We have multiple Pinzgauers, however, they may not all be available depending on the date & time you are looking to book. If you have a group larger than 12 and are looking to book a tour please contact us directly so we may assist you.
How much beer do we get?
Each guest is usually given 3-4 tasting tickets to be redeemed at each stop. We will use our own Scavengers Souvenir Tasting Glasses at many of the stops which are a 6.5oz pour. We also provide 1-2 road beers on average to be consumed in transit in the Pinzgauer. Most tour guests do not use all their tickets. Unused tickets expire at the end of each visit.
Are there tasting fees or any other charges at each stop?
No. Our tours are all-inclusive. The price paid upon booking is the final price. We do tip the beertenders at each stop, but if you feel they are doing an exceptional job you are more than welcome to tip them as well. The same applies to your tour guide at the end of the tour. (10-15% industry standard welcomed, if deserved)
Is a meal provided on the tour? When do we eat?
Yes, a "Phil's BBQ" or "That Boy Good BBQ" meal is included in the tour price and typically eaten at the second brewery stop. Your tour guide will take your meal order during the tour. Phil's BBQ offers a choice of either a BBQ Beef Tri-Tip Sandwich or a Pulled Pork Sandwich w/Coleslaw & Onion Rings. That Boy Good offers a Brisket Sandwich or a Pulled Pork Sandwich. Vegetarian options are available as well. Please notify us in advance for any special requests (vegan meal, etc..).
Do I need to pay for my tour when I book it online?
A 10% deposit is required upon booking to hold the date. The remaining balance will be charged 10 days before the tour.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations may be made up to 10 days before your tour date with no fee. Since full payment for the tour is collected 10 days prior, any cancellations made within 10 days of the tour date are ineligible for full or partial refund.
Where can I be picked up for North County tours?
The default pickup location is the Carlsbad Village Train Station (2775 State St. Carlsbad, CA 92054). There is free parking and ride-share services nearby. We may also be able to pick you up at a local private residence or nearby hotel if you have reserved an entire vehicle.
Where can I be picked up for Downtown tours?
The default pickup location is the Downtown Santa Fe Train Depot. We meet at the corner of Kettner/B St (NOT Broadway) at 1202 Kettner Blvd. We may also be able to pick you up at a local private residence, nearby hotel, or the Old Town Transit Center if you have the entire vehicle reserved.
What about out of area pickups?
Because of the rare and vintage nature of our specialized vehicles we try to limit the mileage and wear and tear they undergo. That said, out of area pickups may be allowed for a fee on a case by case basis. Tour Director approval is required.
Will you wait for me if I'm running late?
If you have provided us with a contact number, we will try to call you at least a few minutes before we leave. Because we are dealing with so many different businesses and moving parts, though, we simply cannot leave any later than the departure time listed for each tour, which is the first time you see listed. We therefore strongly suggest that you arrive 15 minutes prior to departure.
Do I have to be 21 for a seat?
Yes! All ID's will be checked by the Scavengers staff, and there is a chance your ID will be checked at the locations we visit as well.
